Preliminary evaluation of amphiphilic block polyelectrolytes as potential flooding agents for low salinity chemical enhanced oil recovery

چکیده

Amphiphilic block polyelectrolytes are known for their remarkable thickening properties in water solution, originating from ability to self-assemble into large micellar aggregates. This makes them promising flooding agent chemical enhanced oil recovery (cEOR). However, the best of our knowledge, they have not yet been directly investigated this purpose. In work, a survey relevant EOR (rheology, filterability and emulsification), laboratory scale experiments, were performed on solutions polystyrene-block-poly(methacrylic acid) amphiphilic polyelectrolytes, compared with commercial partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM), evaluate real potential applications first time. It was found that copolymers low salinity brine (0.2% concentration NaCl) is remarkably higher than HPAM at comparable weight shear viscosity, despite much lower molecular weight. Effect emulsification studied polymers also preliminarily investigated. Our results suggest mechanism these differs traditional polymer flooding, possibly due oil. conclusion, show promise as agents flooding.

CORE FLOOD STUDIES TO EVALUATE EFFICIENCY OF OIL RECOVERY BY LOW SALINITY WATER FLOODING AS A SECONDARY RECOVERY PROCESS

Various researches on laboratory and field scale illustrate that manipulating the ionic composition and the ion concentration of injected water can affect the efficiency of water flooding and the interaction of injected water with rock and other fluids present in porous media. The objectives of this paper are to investigate parameters that affect low salinity water flooding; mainly the effect o...

Application of Nanoparticles for Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery

In this paper, the potentials of using particles, especially nanoparticles, in enhanced oil recovery is investigated. The effect of different nanoparticles on wettability alteration, which is an important method to increase oil recovery from oil-wet reservoirs, is reviewed. The effect of different kinds of particles, namely solid inorganic particles, hydrophilic or hydrophobic nanoparticles, an...

Low Salinity Oil Recovery - an Experimental Investigation

The idea of injecting low salinity water into a petroleum reservoir is not novel and was often used in the 70’s prior to the injection of surfactant. Yet, recently it was shown that simply injecting sufficiently low salinity water improves oil recovery (LoSalTM). Many possible mechanisms concerning Low salinity waterflood have been proposed in the literature. This paper describes an experimenta...

Investigation of Chemical-Foam Design as a Novel Approach toward Immiscible Foam Flooding for Enhanced Oil Recovery

Strong foam can be generated in porous media containing oil, resulting in incremental oil recovery; however, oil recovery factor is restricted. A large fraction of oil recovered by foam flooding forms an oil-in-water emulsion, so that costly methods may need to be used to separate the oil. Moreover, strong foam could create a large pressure gradient, which may cause fractures in the reservoir. ...
